Get Your Folk On!

Cecil Sharp House, London

A two day course running across Thursday 25 and Friday 26 October.

Juniors (7–11 year olds) | Youth (12–19 year olds)

Through a focus on folk music, song and dance, Get Your Folk On! courses offer young musicians the chance to improve on their performance and playing.

 Skills gained include:

  • play music by ear - no sheet music here!
  • explore harmonies, riffs, chord sequences and folk techniques
  • create arrangements in small and big bands
  • sing and explore folk song history and culture
  • try new instruments or dance forms
  • gain performance skills with final sharing events

These two-day courses are friendly, flexible and responsive to all young people’s needs and abilities, led by skilled and engaging folk educators.  No two courses are the same!

This creative course will have a special focus on tunes and songs from Scotland as we welcome five finalists of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2017 to lead sessions on the first day of the course, in collaboration with the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland. No previous experience is necessary and suitable for all instruments and skill levels.

Led by folk artists Aimée Leonard and Beth Gifford.

All instruments and skill levels welcome and no previous experience of folk required.

Advance booking required.
