Ballads and Songs of Peterloo – Folk Song Subject Index Launch

-

Cecil Sharp House, London

The Vaughan Williams Memorial Library (VWML) is pleased to announce the launch of its new web-based resource – The Folk Song Subject Index.

Have you ever wanted to find folk songs about sea battles, or unrequited love, or ghosts? This new index will give you, for the first time, a way to search what folk songs are about.

To celebrate, we are hosting a free library lecture “Ballads and Songs of Peterloo” by Alison Morgan, along with a drinks reception and a chance to explore the resource for yourself. Dr Morgan’s lecture will explore her research into a unique collection of poems and ballads which highlight the outrage, grief, defiance and resolution felt by labouring-class people in the immediate aftermath of the Peterloo Massacre in 1819.
