We had another great half term at Cecil Sharp House last week. We welcomed 70 children and young people into the building from all over London, surrounding counties, and even as far as Lincolnshire and County Durham!
The second installment in our Ballads series explores the ballad traditions of England and Scotland. Alasdair Roberts, Naomi Bedford, Kris Drever and Lisa Knapp will come together to perform this special one-off show on Friday 27 February. We had a chat with Lisa to find out a bit more about the show.
On Saturday 14 February we're holding a Broken Hearted Ballad Night at Cecil Sharp House. Paul Sartin, Emily Portman and James Fagan will present a selection of beautiful, and in some cases unexpected, ballads of love, loss and heartache.
We caught up with Paul to find out a bit more about the concert and discuss his wider thoughts on folk music.
Flo Brooks will be opening his new exhibition at Cecil Sharp House on Tuesday 10 February. Under the title Heaving the Lead, the works are inspired by research conducted in the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, where Flo looked into what he describes as “marginalised or invisible narratives within a larger folklore landscape”.
