"I loved everything! I am definitely coming back!" Participant
A great opportunity for 7 - 11 year olds to join the English Folk Dance and Song Society's (EFDSS) folk music and dance programme! Instrumentalists and dancers of all levels are welcome to come and enjoy playing, singing, dancing and creating fantastic folk music. No previous experience of folk music needed.
Get Your Folk On! Juniors is based on folk and traditional music and dance from across the British Isles and beyond. You do not need to know how to read music as learning is mainly done by ear.
Everyone will play in a big folk band and learn exciting folk tunes, with the option to take part in traditional dances. The course concludes with participants performing in an informal concert to their family and friends!
This year we are focusing on the archives of American folk song collector, James Madison Carpenter. Currently being digitally archived to the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, his collection contains a wealth of ballads, tunes and other material collected from across UK. We'll be creating our own new and exciting works based on his source recordings and manuscripts, and learning more about his life.
